The Pear in Paper - Meet Lynn

Meet Lynn…

The founder of The Pear in Paper, Lynn looks after design, printing and working directly with all customers.

With a background in environmental management and a passion for sustainable quality design, she has found her niche at her letterpress & linoprint studio.

She was born and reared in Dublin, but spent her teenage years in County Sligo. Lynn decided to eventually set down roots in County Donegal where she lives with her husband, three children and their pet dog Lola. Lynn is inspired by the everyday, like being in love and raising a family in the beautiful countryside of Donegal.

Meet Florrie…

The pride and joy and the primary printer at the studio. Lynn’s right hand woman :-)

This is a lovely treadle based letterpress platen printer that was built in 1872 in Halifax. The printer was beautifully restored by an incredible engineer over a number of months before Lynn made the exciting journey to bring it home.

Why the name Florrie? Lynn’s children wanted to name her and Florrie was top of the list plus it was a very popular name back in 1872.

Visitors to the studio are amazed to see such an incredible machine working with such precision and grace all these years later.

Florrie prints one colour at a time, uses no electricity or battery and is operated by a foot treadle. Each card is printed by hand, Lynn places the card on the platen before the clamshell mechanism closes against the chase holding the design. It is at that point of closure, the letterpress impression is created on each card.

The Pear in Paper - Meet Emily

Meet Emily Huong…

The “human” right hand woman :-)

Emily works part time at the studio and can be found there most weekends.

She is studying application design and user experience at college and is the much needed techie in the studio. The studio would be lost without Emily and her constant enthusiasm and work ethic not to mention her smile :-)

Emily loves nothing more than reading a good book in her spare time.

Meet Rex…

Dating from 1956, this is a Korrex flatbed proofing press built in Germany.

This printer is used with a large range of wood type & linocuts to create prints and posters. This printer is fun to use, albeit a little tempermental at times.
