The following information accompanies the meadow thistle linoprint :

The meadow thistle cirsium dissectum (or feochadfán móna as gaeilge) is a very long, slender and surprisingly delicate flower for a thistle!  

This native Irish plant is much loved by bees and other insects making them extremely important in the ecosystem.  Thistles, like the meadow thistle, are the larval foodplants of the Painted Lady Butterfly.

The meadow thistle is, unfortunately endangered – it is on Ireland’s red list for vascular plants.
